About Us

Hammerdirt is the long-running work of Roger and Shannon Erismann: environmentalists, data scientists, and application developers. The work has continuously adapted to changes in technology, statistics and machine learning, and now artificial intelligence. We are focused on a simple objective: turning observations into useful information. That means combining fieldwork, application development, data processing, and reporting into practical systems that support research, monitoring, and decision-making.

Over the past decade, Hammerdirt has developed this approach through long-running environmental monitoring projects, scientific collaborations, and work for public administrations. In Switzerland, that included building and maintaining end-to-end systems for large-scale shoreline litter surveys, water quality investigations, geospatial analyses, and citizen science campaigns. These projects required more than data collection alone. They depended on repeatable field methods, custom mobile applications, backend infrastructure, transparent analytical workflows, and reporting that could stand up to both scientific review and public accountability. Today, Hammerdirt provides end-to-end environmental monitoring and surveillance solutions. Hammerdirt brings together experienced field personnel, purpose-built data-collection applications, in-house processing infrastructure, and reporting workflows that export results in the formats clients need. The result is a flexible practice that can be hired directly, support an existing team, or contribute technical and field capacity to larger projects.
